Peace and greetings to you, dear brothers and sisters in Christ!
Due to the coronavirus epidemic, countries are alert and bracing themselves for outbreaks. Although the 21st century is the most advanced era in development and human history, people living in this day and age are still susceptible to viruses that are several ten times smaller than bacteria. Under the threat of the virus’ high mortality rate and high contagiousness, we cannot but say that life is fragile and we are finite beings.
David once wrote a psalm that goes, “They are like a breath; their days are like a passing shadow.” (Psalm 144:4) David was a man who experienced the saving power of God in life-and-death situations; therefore, in a heartfelt way he said, “O Lord, what are human beings that you regard them, or mortals that you think of them?” (Psalm 144:3) As we face the epidemic and the unknown tomorrows, we can also find comfort in knowing that God upholds us with his mighty hand during our times of need because of his unfailing love for us.
The book of Esther records a historical incident that happened in March, or more precisely, on the thirteenth and fourteenth day of the month of Adar in the Hebrew calendar. As Jews faced the impending threat of genocide, God destroyed schemes of the enemy overnight and saved the entire people. It not only turned into a celebration for the Jews but also made them great among other peoples in the Persian Empire. This is why the Jewish people celebrate Purim every year. In SOWIM’s Book of Esther Bible study guide, there are thorough background and teachings on this historical event, including its spiritual implications for Christians.
In order for more people to know God’s love and protection and to remember God’s salvation of Jews on Purim, we would like to gift you one set of the Book of Esther Bible study guide when you give towards our production, buy any of our publication, or support our Muslim 1000 ministry. This gift will bring you and your loved ones a deeper understanding of God’s protection over His children when you watch the study videos together.
From June 7th to June 20th this year, SOWIM will host a two-week gospel camp in Cairo, Egypt. The Book of Esther will be our main curriculum for this outreach. We are going to share the good news of Jesus Christ that gives eternal life to the perishing with Muslims. I invite you to consider going on this trip and praying for the salvation of Muslims we will minister to. (see attached flyer for details).
When Queen Esther faced the impending disaster, she said to her uncle Mordecai, “Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will also fast as you do.” (Esther 4:16) God heard Esther’s prayer and is listening to our prayers today.
Let us pray for the turning of the coronavirus epidemic and for God to bless many in the world with his eternal salvation through his son Jesus Christ! In times of trouble, the Lord God is our only protection, source of strength, and hope of eternal life.
